Ramadan 2025
Fasting in Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is one of the most sacred times of the year for Muslims. During Ramadan, Muslims observe a strict fast, abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations, from dawn until sunset. Fasting is a private act of worship that helps Muslims draw closer to God and it is a spiritual discipline that cultivates self-control, gratitude, and compassion for those less fortunate. The fast is broken at the end of the day with the sunset prayer and a meal called Iftar. Ramadan is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion, service, and communal gathering. Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers. Those unable to fast, such as pregnant or nursing women, elderly people, children, and the sick, are exempt from fasting.
According to the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), the first day of fasting will be Saturday, March 1st and Eid al-Fitr will be Sunday, March 30th.
